Curiosities of cats that will leave you with your mouth open

A surprised and curious cat

Cats are fascinating animals and they have many curiosities that are very interesting. Today we bring you a compilation with ten of the curiosities of cats that will leave you speechless.

And if you have been wanting more, In addition to the curiosities cat behavior it's also a sure source of wonder.

cats manipulate us

A cat meows and demands attention by putting its paw on the foot of a human

Cats can make many sounds, but the meow is a tool that they have to, solely and exclusively, communicate with us and tell us what they are interested in us doing. Do you want food? They will approach the drawer where you have the prizes, they will look at you and dedicate their most tender meow to you. Do they want you to open a door for them? They will scratch the door and meow trying to get your attention. In case you're interested, there's even a translator for their meows known as MeowTalk.

cat's whiskers

One of the most fascinating curiosities of cats is related to what we know as whiskers, also called whiskers, whose function is tactile radar. Since cats see very poorly at close range, they use these "hairs" to detect items that are very close to them. Take a good look when you play with your cat, how when you bring something close to its face, they throw their vibrissae forward to be able to detect the toy. It also helps them to determine if they fit through a narrow place, since they not only have vibrissae next to their nose, they also have them on their eyebrows and on their chin.

all well buried

A cat walks through the sand, an ideal place to bury its necessities

As many of you know, cats are animals that use the sandbox and bury their needs. This is because they try to hide their scent so that other predators don't find them, and go unnoticed by rival cats. It is an instinctive behavior that, in the case of stray cats, reaches the extreme that they only relieve themselves in their own territory.

sleeping soundly

If you have a cat you will already know, but they are animals that sleep a lot, not like us, who only do it once. They they doze on several occasions during the day, a light sleep that the slightest noise usually breaks, since they are attentive so that nothing catches them off guard. Even if it is several times, they usually sleep around 70% of the time, which would be equivalent to between 14 and 18 hours. Almost nothing.

At night is when the handsome ones come out

A little cat stretches preparing to hunt at night

Hasn't it happened to you that it's three in the morning and the cat wants to wake you up by doing a somersault on your chest? Well, oddly enough, it's not because the cat has a good time martyring us (although we have our doubts), it's because they are nocturnal animals. This means that at night they will be more active and they need to discharge all that accumulated energy (because it would be the time when they would go hunting). That is why it is recommended to tire your cat before going to sleep, so that it is tired and lets you sleep.

Three colors to rule them all

And we are not talking about RGB or CMY systems. We talk about the colors in the fur of cats, and these can only have two pigments: red (phaeomelanin) and black (eumelanin).

And in the case of cats with white fur? It is due to the lack of both pigments. So now we have the three colors, red, black and white, and the combination of these three colors in different intensities is what causes the richness of colors in the furry fur.

As a curiosity of cats we will add that if you see one with all three colors you can be almost sure that it is a cat, because only they, and for genetic reasons, can have all three colors at the same time.

sweating is for commoners

Two cats jumping and playing

Cats sweat, but they don't have sweat glands spread all over their skin (except hairless cats), so have to find other ways to lower their body temperature, for example through grooming, since saliva serves as a regulator when it evaporates, and panting, as dogs do and they do it to get heat out of their interior. The only places where they have sweat glands are on the pads of their feet, on their lips, in their rear area, and on their chin.

I leave it whenever I want

Like us, cats also have their recreational substances, in their case known as catnip or catnip. Surely you have seen more than one video where cats go half crazy smelling this grass, they frolic, nibble on it, they start running as if there was no tomorrow... It would be the equivalent of a shot of happiness. Yes indeed, not all cats have an effect on grass, it is said that between 20% and 30% are immune.

blue eyes for everyone

A beautiful kitty still with blue eyes

Another curiosity about cats is that all cats are born with blue eyes. As time goes by and they develop, they adopt their final color, which can range from yellow, brown, green, blue and all the colors in between. In addition, cats are animals that can have heterochromia, which is nothing more and nothing less than one eye of each color.

Fingerprints on the nose

Human fingerprints allow us to differentiate from one another. Cats also have something similar, but it is not in the legs, but in the nose. If you look closely, you will see that they have a series of reliefs and indentations, these patterns are what distinguish each cat and make it unique. But, evidently, we do not distinguish cats using their noses, but rather a chip.
